My clients wished to create the look of theĀ  subtropics here in the cooler climate of Hillsborough. We salvaged an existing arbor in the backyard of their older ranch house but everything else went. In designing the pool we used artificial stone and coping. Mosaic glass tile was used to reduce the amount of stone and highlight the spa. Other features included but not seen in these images are the screen and projection TV, the BBQ island and the enclosed equipment room. Planting urns set on heavy plinths along the back side of the lawn add a repetitive design element with their bold, contrasting color against the grass green backdrop of Mexican Weeping Bamboo. Palms, cycads and hot colors finish the planting palette to this “island paradise”.
